Lessening the Occurrence of Domestic Violence - 2040 Words
For centuries there has been the desire to cease domestic violence and all the horror it brings, but for centuries, no one has been capable of conceiving the perfect solution to end this madness, or have they? Did you know that women are more likely to be battered, molested, or even killed by a current or past male partner than by anyone else? A lot of people have come to realize this and in an attempt to fight intimate partner violence in the past two decades, many states have started and still are necessitating mandatory arrests of those who commit this heinous crime. This process was first brought into the light in 1994, when the grand state of New York passed the Family Protection and Domestic Violence Intervention Act, which calls for police departments to acknowledge and treat domestic violence as the serious illegality that it is. Before this was brought in the light, it was a mere idea still forming, the support and major strive for these laws began as early as 1984, after a federal district court in Connecticut decided that the police had unintentionally guarded a woman whose husband was ruthlessly abusing her.
